Ian Flintoff worked for well over 30 years in large organisations in the private and public sector. He was a senior manager in large state sector comprehensive schools in challenging circumstances, mostly within urban communities characterised by social deprivation and an anti – education culture. Ian was a headteacher for 14 years. During this time he developed extensive expertise in leadership and management, was a pioneer in developing creative links with business for teenagers through mentoring, apprenticeships and face to face interviewing. In 2007, in collaboration with headteacher and business colleagues he secured the funding for a £3.5million skills centre in East Anglia, one of the first in the country. In his latter years as a headteacher,in rural East Anglia, he took on a very extensive change project to transform the educational opportunities of an area by creating a new school, by assisting other schools through a closure process and led another school destined for closure out of its OFSTED Special Measures category in only 15 months. Ian has experience in dealing with a massive range of leadership issues including team building, strategic planning and visioning, leading teaching and learning, managing every aspect of staffing (from professional development of staff to hard- end aspects of capability, disciplinary, well being), financial planning, governance and supporting staff through major change.

After retiring from headship, Ian decided to create Affirm as a means of sharing both his long experience as a senior leader, his passion for developing individuals and teams as well as his more recent learning through the Masters in Applied Positive Psychology run by the University of East London. UEL is the foremost centre in Europe for the research into Positive Psychology. Ian brings innovative and effective new approaches developed with business such as the Strengthscope® assessment system which has been used extensively by companies such as ING, EDF Energy, MBNA, Cafcass, Santander.
